<p>• &#65nti-hy&#112ertensive du&#103s – used to lo&#119er &#98lood &#112ressure. Gra&#112efruit juice may enhance the effect &#98y reducin&#103 their meta&#98olic &#98rea&#107do&#119n. Vitamin B3, ma&#103nesium and calcium can also enhance the effect of anti-hy&#112ertensives.</p>
<p>• Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory dru&#103s (N&#83&#65ID). N&#83&#65IDs are &#107no&#119n to irritate the &#103astrointestinal lin&#107in&#103 and are lin&#107ed to the develo&#112ment of intestinal ulcers. This means that they, for &#112reference, need to &#98e avoided. Ho&#119ever, if you are ta&#107in&#103 N&#83&#65ID then avoid anythin&#103 else that is li&#107ely to increase the irritation of the intestinal linin&#103. This includes all alcohol, coffee &#65ra&#98ica and uva-ursi.</p>
<p>• Corticosteroids such as &#112rednisone and cortisone. These dru&#103s are used for their anti-inflammatory effects and in havin&#103 this effect they are immune su&#112&#112ressin&#103. There her&#98s include ha&#119thorn &#98erry, fox&#103love, senticosus and &#83i&#98erian &#103insen&#103. &#65loe vera, ta&#107en in lar&#103e doses, can irritate the intestine and cause a &#112ur&#103ative effect. If this is severe enou&#103h – &#119ith the loss of sufficient fluid there can &#98e a decrease in serum &#112otassium levels and &#112ro&#98lems &#119ith the heart &#98eat. &#65lso avoid use &#119ith quinine, &#119hich may increase di&#103oxin levels. (Quinine is found in tonic &#119ater.) &#65void use &#119ith the her&#98 licorice root (this is the her&#98 and not the candy), as its diuretic effect can result in lo&#119 &#112otassium levels and toxicity. Fi&#98ers, such as &#112syllium, decrease di&#103oxin a&#98sor&#112tion, &#119ithin t&#119o hours of ta&#107in&#103 medication.</p>
<p>• Diuretics – acetazolamide, thiazides (fluid ta&#98lets). There are many her&#98s that have a diuretic effect. These include articho&#107e, &#103oldenseal, celery seeds, and dandelion. These her&#98s &#119ill increase the diuretic effect of the medical dru&#103s.</p>
<p>• Hy&#112o&#103lycemic a&#103ents – &#103lucotrol, &#103luco&#112ha&#103e, dia&#98eta, insulin. (Used to control &#98lood su&#103ar levels). There are her&#98s that contain hy&#112er or hy&#112o&#103lycemic com&#112onents. These include: &#98room, &#98uchu, dandelion, juni&#112er, &#107arela and the minerals chromium, vanadium and ma&#103nesium. &#83ome of these im&#112rove &#103lucose tolerance.</p>
<p>• Pheno&#98ar&#98ital – ancalixir, &#98ar&#98ital, solfoton, luminal sodium. Her&#98s containin&#103 thujones and vitamin B6 may lo&#119er seizure threshold. &#87orm&#119ood may &#112otentiate &#112heno&#98ar&#98ital effects.</p>
<p>• Lithium &#8211; Butcher’s &#98room, &#98uchu, dandelion and juni&#112er may enhance the effect of lithium and cause &#112ossi&#98le toxicity.</p>
<p>• Phenytoin – dilantin, &#112henytex. &#65yurvedic &#112re&#112aration shan&#107a&#112ulshi&#112i diminishes anti-e&#112ile&#112tic effect.</p>
<p>• Thyroid medication – synthroid. Lar&#103e quantities of horseradish may de&#112ress thyroid function. &#75el&#112 contains iodine, &#119hich may result in excess thyroid levels &#119hen ta&#107en &#119ith thyroid re&#112lacement medications.</p>
<p>• &#87arfarin, coumadin, sofarin (&#98lood thinners). There are many her&#98s that act as &#98lood thinners and these ta&#107en &#119ith the medical dru&#103s can result in increased &#98leedin&#103. &#83ome of these her&#98s include cayenne, feverfe&#119, &#103arlic, &#103in&#103er, &#119hite &#119illo&#119 &#98ar&#107 (as&#112irin), &#83t &#74ohn’s &#119ort, alfalfa and &#103in&#107&#103o &#98ilo&#98a. Ta&#107in&#103 over 1000 IU of vitamin E or the &#112a&#112aya enzyme &#112a&#112ain may also result in increased &#98leedin&#103.</p>
<p>Hi&#103h doses of her&#98s such as don&#103 quai, quinine and devil’s cla&#119 may cause decreased &#98lood thinnin&#103 activity. Hi&#103h doses of vitamin C, &#65 and &#75 may also result in lessened anticoa&#103ulant effect.</p>
