Types of Herbal Remedies That Can Be Used Safely and Effectively for Children

Herbal remedies are truly effective for a wide variety of conditions. From simple coughs to skin conditions, these natural treatment methods have long proven their efficacy for several forms of illnesses and diseases. They have been used for several centuries and managed to retain their usefulness and popularity in the current modern world. These remedies are also helpful for treating kids with certain forms of illnesses. Here are some examples of effective herbal cures.

Aches and pains 

It is often when children complain of aches and pains either from toothache or from an accident. Nevertheless, these can be treated with the right herbal remedies. Boneset, for instance, is a great remedy for such conditions. Drinking a hot infusion of the herb can make the condition bearable even during the worst cases of flu. The only downside to this herb is its bitter taste, which obviously no child can relish. 

As alternatives to boneset, there are peppermint, elder flower and linden. These herbal remedies have the same effect for aches and pains however less potent than boneset. But with their pleasanter taste, children suffering from pains accompanied by mild fever can sail through the sickness swimmingly with these remedies. 

Coughs 

Herbal cures are also known to be useful for children suffering from coughs. One popular herbal treatment for coughs is coltsfoot, which is both safe and effective for children. By using the herb as an infusion three times per day, can help alleviate the symptoms and eventually cure the cough. Dry coughing, on the other hand, can be easily remedied by liquorice and marshmallow leaves. 

Constipation and diarrhea 

Constipation can be easily remedied through dietary changes. By incorporating vegetables in the meals and drinking lots of fluids, children can effectively avert constipation. There are also herbal treatments that can efficiently help eliminate constipation. Psyllium seed is one example. For persistent constipation, preparing dandelion root decoction will prove to be greatly effective. 

On the other hand, herbs with astringent properties will be tremendously helpful in treating diarrhea in children. Herbal cures like meadowsweet is proven useful in soothing and protecting the lining of the digestive tract. It is also great in lessening nausea as well as reducing the acidity in the stomach. 

Hyperactivity 

Hyperactivity is a common problem among children. Fortunately, simple herbal remedies can provide effective treatment. Chamomile, which is famous for its calming and soporific effects, is a great solution. Linden has also great effects to the nervous system.
